Dr. Rivera Aguerri has extensive experience in general, bariatric, and minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. He is certified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Costa Rica. He serves as director of the surgery department at CIMA Hospital in San José, Costa Rica. This is a general hospital with state-of-the-art technology, accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI). Dr. Rivera Aguerri's more than 2,000 laparoscopic procedures and credentials are recognized worldwide by the International College of Surgeons (FICS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and the Latin American Association of Endoscopic Surgeons (ALACE). He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Due to his constant professional development and extensive experience in minimally invasive bariatric surgery, he is considered one of the pioneers in procedures of this type in Costa Rica and Central America.
